    73yo white male, BMI about 29. Use to run long distances before ruining my hip. I've always had a low resting heart rate, now with beta blocker, my normal resting rate is just on 50bpm. I monitor this with a Garmin sports watch.

    Hey Matt, regarding tip #10 - you say that if I don't practice it (like aerobic endurance and max strength) I lose them after some time and they regress to "baseline" level (after say 30 days). But what is the meaning of "baseline"? How far back? And how do you combine this knowledge with periodization (doing a phase of endurance, of strength, and perhaps hypertrophy)? I really don't want to lose my weighted pull up strength just because I decided to train my aerobic endurance a little. Is it really possible to be a jack of all trades? Thanks! Great video by the way!

    A loud “Yes!” to an episode on CNS and NS adaptations! 🙏 I think I’m simply regressing while training has little soreness afterwards. However, my HRV/RHR dropped and energy levels are kinda suspicious because calories in are ok and I’m sleeping 7.5-8 hrs of good (I think!) sleep.

    Not my interpretation. Z5 is VO2 Max, 4-8 minute intervals above threshold but within aerobic capacity. The intervals you described of 30 seconds or less would be purely anaerobic within my interpretation and would be classified as above Z5.

    I'm 59, 6ft 210-215 pounds, a little bit of a gut. That's about 15 pounds more than I should be to feel really good, historically. Over the past month plus, my resting heart rate has been running around 51 to 55 per minute when I'm totally relaxed sitting on the couch. I do a combination of (mostly) stair climbing at a nearby tall building, with occasionally peddling my beach cruiser a few miles, or go for a walk.

    Super Interesting. Thanks for sharing. My RHR average is 53 bpm over a year. But I work out and have been working out like a Banshee. As if I wasn’t doing enough already, I just started monkeying around with BFR training, Rucking, and 4:3 Norwegian H.I.I.T training. I can only presume that if I stopped and let myself go like some guys, my RHR would skyrocket. My priority in staying fit is to keep my visceral fat % at optimal levels, minimize my risk of cardiometabolic issues, and preserve and maintain if not build some lean muscle mass to minimize long term risk of sarcopenia Just trying to save some up to get a lab V02 max test. My body fat 13.5 but I would like to drop it to at least 13% and msintain it there. As far as RHR, I am more concerned about maximizing my V02 Max as I believe thst is a better metric for overall and long term health. It will be interesting to see how it tracks with RHR over time.

    Nice video. Can you link the studies that support the benefits of isometrics over dinamic exercise

    • @TheMovementSystem
      @TheMovementSystem 2 дні тому

      I’m not aware of any such studies. There are some meta analyses comparing isometric with heavy slow resistance exercise showing similar outcomes. There are case level studies with different protocols and higher loading and more mechanistic results of tendon remodeling that we don’t yet have large scale evidence for. A lot of this comes down to evaluating what is out there as a whole plus experience plus clinical reasoning so I can’t point you to any one study.

    • @1set_duma
      @1set_duma 2 дні тому

      @@TheMovementSystem thank you for the clean answer. I’m experimenting with isometrics. I have weak “loose” tendons in my shoulders and wrists. Becoming stronger at moving weights around doesn’t feel like the best thing. Maybe RESISTING to the movement is more beneficial.
